Fire Safe The Mesa Fund

The threat from wildfires is all around us as highly flammable invasive plants and the dead plant fuel sources in the publicly owned Del Mar Mesa Preserve proliferates unabated.

The Del Mar Mesa Fire Council is asking for your help.

The Council has launched a new program: “Fire Safe The Mesa,” to begin invasive plant abatement and  in public lands surrounding the Del Mar Mesa Community.

An initial $25,000 grant from the nonprofit POPs (Protect Our Preserves) will enable us to begin the project in the most impacted areas. POPs is also providing a matching $25,000 grant that will allow us to expand the project to other critical identified areas.

Your generous donation will help us obtain the matching funds.

While recent rainfall has postponed fire season temporarily, the bad news is that it has provided the fire-prone plant life with more fuel to propagate.  We need to act, now.

The Council is contracting with the nonprofit Canyonlands which has a Master Right of Entry permit for this specific type of work on City owned property and are well-regarded experts in invasive plant removal and sensitive habitat protection.

Our fiscal sponsor the San Diego County Fire Safe Council is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization.
