FIRE SAVE THE MESA PROJECT
The threat from wildfires is all around us as highly flammable invasive plants and dead plant fuel sources in the publicly owned Del Mar Mesa Preserve proliferates unabated. The Council has launched a new program: “Fire Safe The Mesa,” to begin invasive plant and fuel source abatement in public lands surrounding the Del Mar Mesa Community.

Map of Target Areas
The Fire Council is contracting with nonprofit Canyonlands for the POPs grant work. Canyonlands has a Master Right of Entry permit for this specific type of work in City owned property and they are well-regarded experts in invasive plant removal and sensitive habitat protection.

03
An initial $25,000 grant from the nonprofit Protect Our Preserves (POPs) will enable us to begin the project in the most impacted areas. POPs is also providing a matching $25,000 grant that will allow us to expand the project to other identified critical areas. Contributions are tax deductible.

Invasive Plant & Fuel Removal
While recent rainfall has postponed fire season temporarily, the bad news is that it has provided the fire-prone plant life with more fuel to propagate. This includes Pampass Grass and Mexican Palms. We need to act, now.
