Chair Remarks: Goals of Fire Safe Council: 


What is a Fire Safe Council:


Del Mar Mesa FSC is a sub chapter of the San Diego County Fire Safe Council.  Our mission is to educate and provide resources to residents in order to fully prepare of wildfires.  Forming a local chapter provides us access to County resources and gives us legitimacy in the eyes of Cal Fire and the City.


Goals:


  • Increase Awareness- Fire Risk for residents within Del Mar Mesa.  Issues we have in common with Pacific Palisades. (Similar risk profile)


  • Both areas designated at highest fire risk profile (red) as shown by recent release of update fire maps.

  • Both have high Santa Ana winds

  • Similar topography.  Surrounded by Canyons with homes on an elevated plateau.

  • Insurance Company cancellations or non-renewal 

  • Lack of City engagement on Brush Management

  • Limited Evacuation routes


  • Preparation is Key (Lisa Ross to preview Website)


  • Aggregate resources for fire preparation under one umbrella. DelMarMesaFireSafe.org (Type of resources):

  • Home Hardening

  • Defensible Space

  • Evacuation Checklist

  • Fire friendly landscaping

  • Evacuation Routes. (Designated Evacuation Routes for specific communities)

  • Fire notification Apps (Watch Duty)

  • Links to CAL Fire and City of San Diego resources

  • Links for Webinars through the San Diego Fire Safe Council. (firesafesdcounty.org)


  • Advocate for Brush Management

    • Work with City Officials to push for Brush Management in the surrounding areas of Del Mar Mesa.

    • Partner with HOA’s to property manage common areas within their respective communities.  Work with HOA’s to help communicate fire preparation awareness with the community.  Projects- Dumpathon.
